Some Latin Americans struggle to reconnect with their cultural roots because of a lack of resources. Latin American households place a higher priority on providing for their families than on leisure travel. Furthermore,  Latin America’s travel niche is small compared to other markets. In this case, there is a particular concern about the wounds endured by Latam mothers. The mother wound lies beneath the veil of patio gatherings, piñata installations, and mouthwatering recipes. We are holding back the power of our roots because of the weight and stagnation of the mother’s energy.

Two women with child

Take the example of a Latin American mother who dreamed of becoming a journalist. As she imagines a world where her gifts can be used. A 360-degree view of her family’s generational landscape is being scanned by her while she is dreaming. She tells herself that she must be different. She dreams of breaking generations’ paradigms by stepping outside soap operas, conditioned magazines, and ritual family vacations. Her mother’s fear that her daughter would break family traditions shattered her dream of accomplishing something meaningful. In turn, she transfers that fear to the next generation, and the cycle continues.

A mother’s broken dreams and burdens plant seeds of fear in her children so they can’t discover themselves and activate the power of their roots. Her broken dream unconsciously perpetuates generational trauma, toxic traditions, and clipped wings. She fears losing her children if they discover who they are due to a deep wound from childhood that has contaminated her world. In addition, she and the next generation may be prevented from knowing the past, healing the present, and planting seeds for a better tomorrow due to financial constraints. Lastly, there are various reasons why Latams have not embarked on this journey, and each has a unique story. However, the mother wound is one of the roots.

The power is woven behind the traditional sancocho-making, the piñata-purging, and your uncle’s stand-up comedy that reveals why you must embrace your roots and discover their significance. Asking your mother’s story is a path to healing her wounded heart, and telling your story is a way to unleash the magic within your roots. Considering that the veil of conditioning obscures the true stories of our roots. For us to unleash The Power of Our Roots, we must unclip the wings and discover not only the beautiful stories but also the painful ones.
